Desert Rock includes bands such as Kyuss, Queens of The Stone Age, Fu Manchu, and earthlings? These bands usually have heavy Latin influences, repetitive drum beats and heavy bass driven riffs. Psychedelic imagery is very prominent amongst the bands.
This genre emerged in the early 90's in and around the Palm Desert in California but has expanded as its beginnings as just the music that was played at generator parties in the desert. The band Yawning Man began this trend with Fu Manchu and Kyuss soon following. Bands such as Masters of Reality, even though originating in New York, have joined this scene through collaboration with Desert Rock artists and their style.
One of the main collaborations of this genre is Josh Homme's Desert Sessions which include many artists from the scene and those that are not who all come together at the Rancho De Luna in Joshua Tree California to create what ever music come to mind or out of mind.
This genre has always considered its self to be underground but international success has clearly visited Queens Of The Stone Age and Fu Manchu and will no doubt come to other deserving bands of this genre.
